U-boat in the South Pacific

<HTML>During a recent trip to French Polynesia, we asked our guides about a shipwreck on the reef of Moorea. They told us that it was a German U-boat. I'm thinking it was probably a Japanese I-boat or an allied sub; I didn't think that the Kriegsmarine ventured that far into the Pacific. Does anyone know?</HTML>
