This boat is recorded as having been damaged in a collision on 19.10.44, with a position of 70'N 15'E or off the Lofoten Islands, thenpaid off on the 21st. There were five other U-boats were lost in collision with German ships, excluding the thirteen lost to other U-boats, and one to an Italian vessel. In each case all having the guilty vessel named, but not the one that U957 collided with. Having just read her story on the Historisches site, she is listed as having been damage in a collision with a iceberg back on 18.09.44, where she sustained periscope damaged, and presummably some to her conning tower as well. having returned she passes from the Norwegian bases until reaching Trondheim, wher she had some repair work undertaken. She seems, after that to only have been used coastal between Trondheim and Narvik, where she was finally paid off in October. There is no mention of a second collision. Therefore I wonder, seeing the name of the GERMAN ship that she collied with in October is not apparently known, that there was no second collision , but structural damage from the September collision was the eventual cause of her being paid off?????. john
