According to "Chronology Of The War At Sea 1939-1945" by Rohwer (2005 Ed. - P.368):

"The German U 957 (Lt. Schaar) is badly damaged in a collision with pack ice off the Lofoten Islands and has to be decommissioned on 21 October at Narvik."
