<HTML>Hi Carl
The open seam shearling coat may of been used at that time..?
The typcially jacket worn by a Kapitan/Commander of the German U-boat arm
usually is showing on his the left side jacket, the Order of the German Cross, &
on the right the right. the Iron Cross 1st Class above the U-boat War Badge.
A ribbon denotes the Iron Cross 2nd Class.
Leather jackets & trousers, were worn by crew members over their uniform, mainly for bad weather on the surface. The heavy rain & cold of the North Atlantic storm necessitated the proctection needed for the crew by using this type of leather clothing.
Cheers Joe</HTML>
