For those who were not aware of it, this is to remind them that U-123 (Drumbeat) captain Reinhard Hardegen, KC and OL, recently celebrated his 105th birthday, which makes him the oldest surviving U-boat commander of WWII. What an accomplishment for a man who was nearly killed in his early career as a navy pilot before joining the U-boat service. He is still in good physical and mental health and taking an avid interest in the affairs of the world around him. He surely is a one-of-a-kind guy!
