<HTML>I need to expand on the history of the U-602.
My friend Dominique and I rediscovered this u-boat last year, knowing the story of the french diver Elie Boissin who found it first in the seventies with the help of his commander PHILLIP SCHULER. [who, contrary to assumption, actually survived the war, as did all the crew!!!]. We can supply photographs to prove it!
Schuler fully described the story of the U-boat to Elie Boissin. Schuler lived in Ibiza until his death at the beginning of the 80'.
the last radio-contact of the U-602 was in April 1943 near Oran, Algiers as an attack shortly thereafter destroyed their radio communications. They sheltered close to the island of Tagomago ( north ibiza, spain ), trying to repair the radio - this took until the end of the war apparently! Schuler decided to sink the 602. He put all the crew on the island of Tagomago and sank the u-boat in deep water about 1 mile off Tagomago.
The crew preferred to stay in Spain rather than return to Germany - apparently none returned. Schuler lived out the rest of his days in Cala Sant-Vincent ( north cost of Ibiza ).
I wonder if anyone knows where one might obtain a copy of Elie Boissin's book on her discovery....or even if someone knows all the story in detail - because the website "uboat.net" places the U-602 just off the north-coast of Ibiza on their maritime chart. Where did they get their information from?</HTML>
