He traveled on U-180, an IXD1, with Fregkpt. Werner Musenberg. This U-boat was unique in that it was powered with 6 ea. Daimler-Benz - 20 Diesels and had around 9,000 horsepower. It could do 211/2 knots on the surface. See the following website for pertinent data:
