IKL - Dr (LI) Gabler.

<HTML>Hi all -

I am involved with a study of U-564 at the moment. `Teddy` Suhren`s extremely able LI, without whom indeed he refused to go to sea on his last patrol as Captain of U-564, was Ullrich Gabler. In `Nasses Eichenlaub`, Suhren`s memoirs, he mentions that Gabler started a successfuly European submarine design firm after the war, and, having been curious about what and where, I was delighted to see his name mentioned in connection with the `Thyssen-Nordseewerke` thread recently. (See quote below, with many thanks indeed to Superkraut, from whose post the quotation comes.)

Does anyone know when Gabler`s connection with IKL finished, and whether indeed he is still living ?

And was the `Agricultural machinery` a `front` only, or did they really design tractors at first ?

I`d be most grateful for any further information about Dr Gabler`s involvement with IKL and subsequent whereabouts.

Best wishes

- (and thanks again to Superkraut for the information !)

Frank

Quote - \"Actually, like all post war German built submarines, it was designed by IKL (Ingenieurkontor Luebeck) started up by Dr. Ing. Gabler and Mr. Aschmoneit in 1946, but which worked initially on designing agricultural machinery. IKL was a submarine design office which worked with the German shipbuilding companies like HDW and Thyssen Nordseewerke. IKL was recently acquired by HDW\".
