<HTML>Having just read \"Battle Beneath the Waves\" which includes a chapter about the U47 attack on Scapa Flow, the thought struck me: What if the U47 and two other Type VIIB boats had attacked on 11th October 1939 (the British Fleet sailed from Scapa on 12th October, less than two days before Prien\'s attack)? At such close range the British losses would have been heavy (perhaps 8 capital ships?). At this early stage of the war would such a demonstration of U-boat power have effected the outcome? If the Fleet was at anchor in Scapa would the defences have prevented the U-boat(s) reaching the harbour? Apologies if the subject has been discussed previously.
