<HTML>Hi Ted

U 402 was VIIC Type U-boat, commissioned on 21/5/41
The boat\'s CO was KK Frehierr Siegfried von Forstner- May 41-43.
U 402 served with the 3 U-Flottille, Kie/ La Pallice-May 41 to 43
The boat did 8 patrols & sank 14 ships + 3 damaged & 1 armed yacht.

On the 13th/10/43 she spotted by a naval aircraft, (Avenger)
unable to use his homing torpedo while the U-Boat was still on the
surface , the pilot of the a/c called for assistance. The arrival of a
U.S Wildcat a/c caused U 402 to order a dive. The Avenger a/c pilot
saw his chance & dropped his homing torpedo and destroy U 402.
There were no survivors, all of her crew 50 were dead.
