<HTML>Hi Julian:

My book of emblems “U-boat emblems of World War II 1939-1945” by Georg Högel, says that the smiling sawfish emblem was painted on after the 3rd mission”. “It was painted by a friend of the first commander (named Kossatz); he was the graphic artist that who created the caricature”. Högel book says nothing about the color of the smiling sawfish emblem, but you can see that at the following: [www.uboat.net] just click on the 9th Unterseebootsflottille “Smiling Sawfish” emblem.

Good Luck and Good Hunting,
Jerry Pope</HTML>
