<HTML>Hi K.,
The Electroboat version of the type XXVI (i.e. XXVI E1) was presented to Doenitz on 2/22/44 and rejected. D. wanted the higher power of the W'turbine. Drawings for that version were supposed to be finished by late spring according to E. Roessler.
At abt. that time designs XXIX and XXX started to compete with the XXI follow-up and XXVI versions. (Main difference the two-deck forward torpedo room with a total of eight tubes in the latter designs). THAT is why I am doubting that sections of the XXVI were actually built. Exception, perhaps, would be the stern section with turbine room, which could easily be adapted to the later designs. Rgds, RB</HTML>
