<HTML>The S-8 is the second Russian sub found by divers in recent years. Until found, it was assumed that the sub had been lost in the Gulf of Finland sometime after October 11 1941, that\'s when the last radio message was sent. We now know that S-8 actually managed to break out of the Gulf of Finland (difficult due to the large amount of mines in that area) and that she reached her operational area (the Swedish east coast). Her mission was to disrupt iron ore shipments from Sweden to Germany. She was lost south of the island of Oeland. She was most probably mined in a German minefield that was laid in the summer of 1941.
