For example , the type IIC can go down to the maximum depth of 150m . The type VIIC Can go down to the maximum depth of 220m , and the type XXI can go down to 280m .
When the U-331 hit the HMS Barham , she did an emergency dive to avoid the destroyers that were with the Barham . She dived , and it settled at 310 feet . The crew found this abnormal , and they checked another gauge . They had gone down to the impossible depth of 820 feet , without the boat having any slight leaks or groaning . I believe this is the deepest a type VIIC has dived , but I may of course be wrong .</HTML>
