<HTML>From "A careless word, a needless sinking": Robert Gray departed New York 12 April in convoy HX.234 but straggled & was never ard from again. She was torpedoed by U-306 (von Trotha) at 1300 hrs GCT of 23/4, about 125 nm S of Cape Farewell, there were no survivors of the 39 crew & 23 armed guards.
Given the thoroughness of the research which went into the book, I would accept the above version rather than the alternative one.
