<HTML>My understanding of the date of command question is due to a slight date discrepancy as noted by the German office for notifying next of kin of war dead (the WASt). Apparently they record a beginning date one day earlier for HvW than other records, which according to them was when commander Werner Hartmann ended his command on that boat and HvW actually took over.
