<HTML>Probably it was 94-P-10, a VP-94 Catalina, piloted by Lt. Theodore S. Stritter USNR. He and his crew were doing night coverage to convoy JT-14 when dissapeared.
On December 3rd, at 0030S-4830W, a wing float was sighted with other pieces. Wreckage led to the conclusion that the pilot was attempting a forced landing. From other appearances of the float there were indications that the plane entered the water with the right wing low at a speed well over that expected.
Then, I think she was not shot down.
Good winds,</HTML>
