<HTML>\".......the most serious casualty was the fine troopship TRANSYLVANIA (14,315 tons), with 3000 troops for Egypt. In February the Japanese Government had offered to send 8 destroyers under a Japanese rear-admiral to co-operate with the British patrols in the Mediterranesn. Two of these Japanese destroyers, MATSU and SAKAKI, were escorting the TRANSYLVANIA; and when they were 2-1/2 miles south of cape Vado, in the Gulf of Genoa, the large liner was twice torpedoed, sinking in less than an hour with 270 of those aboard.\"
\"On June 11 the SAKAKI was damaged by a torpedo, losing 55 of her crew.\"
no mention is made of either U-boat.
