Laurie,
A legend my friend. Villa Winter was built after 1950 and has no bearing on visiting U-Boats. True, a strange place to build a large home - that is the only mystery regarding Villa Winter at Cofete. The background history on Herr Gustav Winter has also been established.
The water depth around the so-called caves would never permit access a U-Boat. Rip tides and surf conditions around the island would also make it an improbable landing site for a small raft, etc.
If fleeing Nazis at the end of the war were looking for safe haven, the last place to land would be in the area you cite - they would have much better luck in a large metropolitan city, if they were trying to evade the authorities; this desolate remote area would not have been a good choice for them.
This book by Jak Showell covers this topic quite extensively in Chapter 8, pages 84-92.
