Wow, nice to know I am missed and my work was appreciated. Thankyou all for your nice comments.
I did in fact leave the Museum of Science and Industry for a new challenge. I am now Director of Museum Operations at the Cantigny First Division Museum in Wheaton, IL; a museum dedicated to telling the story of the Big Red One from WWI to the present.
After working 17 years on the U-505 to document its role in American military history and to care for this important artifact I felt my work was done with the new U-505 exhibit. I did think long and hard about leaving and wondered if I could stand being away from something I literally put 17 years of my life into. But I felt it was important for me to grow professionally and that my best opportunity for that was to take the job at the First Division Museum.
I have comments on your questions regarding the paint issue brought up here so I will respond at a later date.
The U-505 is still important to me and I am still gathering notes and thoughts for a book I hope to write but this will take some time. As a result I will still keep involved in the U-boat community but without the immediacy of working with the U-505 itself.
More later

Keith Gill
