Get ahold of U-556/Wolhfarth's logbook.
It contains some very poignant, real-time remarks about the sinking. Wohlfarth was returning home from a successful patrol, having been awarded the Knight's Cross, and was empty of torpedos. He had an incredible opportunity to sink some major British warships, save for the lack of aforementioned 'fish.'
I believe U-74 (Kentrat) picked up three survivors.
Sadly, there could have been far more survivors plucked from the water, save for reports of U-boats in the area caused the British to break off their rescue efforts.
