U-249 surrendered to a Navy Liberator from Fleet Air Wing 7 and went to Portland, England. Our crew from FAW 7 went to see the boat. As a radioman, I was expecially interested in the radio room. I observed many phonograph records of the big bands, Dorsey, Glen Miller and others. I liberated some 22 caliber bullets made by Winchester.
I hope this gives you an idea of the music aboard. Good music. I still like it.
