<HTML>Hi Woody,
Thogh it might be narrated elswhere, I know of the action Fin mentions through
Clay Blair\'s \"Hitler\'s U-boat war\", Vol. II, p 363-364.
In substance Kapitzky and his crew managed to fight off for a full week dozens of USN airplanes who attacked U-615, since first sighted on 29 July 1943, until her sinking on 7 August 1943. By doing so, the crew of U-615 shot down a PBM-3 Mariner (VP 205, piloted by A. R. Matuski) and damaged another one of VP-204, killing it\'s pilot, John W. Dreschbach. There were no less than 6 Mariners and a Harpoon from the Navy besides one B-18 from the Army to finally sink U-615. USS Walker rescued 43 Ubootmänner.
Regards
