On this forum I have made some pretty harsh remarks about the Argentinians who took a ship from under me in the Falklands in \\\'82. Bitter - because I was - I still found a certain respect for the enemy who killed my ship and a number of her crew. I received one response direct to my e-mail address - this from someone who wished to query one claim but did so with friendship despite being Argentinian. I wont say my feelings towards those who were, at that time, my enemies is in any way aussaged - but I do respect their stance and respect too their courage. An e-mail address is a way of effective personal correspondence. My view is, if you don\\\'t put it up then there is something to hide. That\\\'s my view.

Captain Duffy has a right to \\\'blast\\\' who he pleases. The right to freedom of expression has been paid for, and is still being paid for. Ergo sum, that right is open to all. As for honarary membership, we are all here by choice - there is no membership. Therefore, Captain Duffy exercises that right as you do.

Then read the history of the Merchant Service - Allied and Axis. Some ships never made it further than a few miles from port - and with a shortage of seafarers, you had a lot of ships to sail on. After my RN service I went into the MN and - not in wartime - still managed thirteen seperate ships in ten years! A sailor\\\'s life is an initerant one.

Yeah, right. Oh and I do! However, your callous and scathing remark is made even more sly by the fact that whilst Captain Duffy served - how would a man have the face to put a website up claiming what he does if he knew it to be an untruth? There would be many in the USMM who would soon have him pilloried on other seafaring sites and trust me, I\\\'d soon know!
Captain George Duffy did serve, of that I have no doubt. We should be proud to have a vetran of the time which we profess an interest in here on this forum. There should be respect for old warriors, decency and aye, even some empathy. Instead, we see some flaming and that is way bang out of order.
Tell me Paul. Did you serve? Have you ever taken the colours? Seen action? Known what it was like to see men burned to carbon in grotesque positions, welded to the steel by their body fat? Heard an incoming alarm and - seconds later - seen how lethal air launched missiles are? Felt the tearing bitterness as you watch a ship you served on slip under and go deep six? Known what it was like? Answer those - prove that you could undertake what George Duffy and thousands of others like him underttok - and I will listen to you. I fancy that you are no more than an amateur historian. One of the worst type - who really believes they could take the colours when the call came but, instead, lives in dreams of glory. If you did serve, then I would apologise - but then, I\\\'m like that. I\\\'d take it as it was given to me. I would not dare to doubt. How can you be so slanderous towards someone like Captain duffy who, at least, has a traceable history on the web and does not hide that?
Until then, show some respect for a man who served his country. May I just quote you something that may give you food for thought?
Truth is only for the brave.
Life is only for him who is not afraid to die.
I salute Captain Duffy and all those who went along that path to the sea.
