John M. Waters relates in his book \"Bloody Winter\" , various actions carried out against several allied convoys by Von Forstner U402.He even includes a dedicated chapter titled \"Profile on an ace\".
The account about the sinking of USS Cythera is also included (PY 26, 250-feet, 850-tons: \"had been a large yacht, with several months before had been taken over by the Navy and converted into an escort vessel.\")
\"The (two) survivors (from USS Cythera) were a pharmacist mate and a seaman, and the former had seen more than his share of trouble, having been a member of the crew of the (battleship) USS Oklahoma when it was sunk at Pearl Harbour only five months before.\"
\"Only two survivors were found, clinging to a raft, and both were rescued.\"( by U402).
\"Writting to his wife, Forstner said, \"We should really kept them locked up and all
that, but a U-boat is not spacious as you know (sic) and they were nice chaps and friendly.They joined us in our meals, and we brought them home in our own way, and nobody the worse for it.At our arrival, they were met by an escort and taken away in the usual manner thought fit for prisoners of war, much to the consternation of my crew, whom they had invited to come and see them back home in the States after de war\".\"
The book includes several photos (from frau Annamaria Rapp) of Kapitänleutnant Baron Siegfried Freiherr von Forstner, one of the conning tower (before flak modification) of U402 entering La Pallice after the attack on SC118 , and other photo (from USN/National Archives) of U402 surprised on surface by the TBF from USS Card,before its last dive.
