U-534 Info needed

Heard this from my brother when I was home in N Wales this weekend.

He gets around a bit with a group of guys into warfare and the last visit was to U-534 at Birkenhead. He says the story he heard about how the project was costed was that one of the multinational oil giants paid for the salvage and move to Birkenhead....

...in return for all of the \'synthetic\' fuel in her tanks. Apparently this fuel is of such value that if it was commercially available then current petrol and diesel prices would drop by 75%! The process being worked on by the Germans at that stage of the war meant that U-534 was using this synthesised diesel...

...anyone cast any light on this one?

Or is it a shaggy dog story....?
