Much later on, after the war, he discovered the USA has apparently borrowed the same musical tune, with much different words, called \"Stars and Stripes Forever\"...a patriotic song for the US.
I\'ve seen films of German bands playing this tune, familiar to us Americans, and it\'s quite startling...
