U-97

<HTML>Hi folks,

I\'m wondering over one picture showing U-97 beached near Haïfa in June 1943. Her fate on Uboat.net says she was attacked and sunk on 16 June, 1943 in the Mediterranean, west of Haifa in position 33.00N, 34.00W by depth charges from an Australian Hudson aircraft (Sqdn 459/T), and that there were 27 dead and 21 survivors from her crew.
The pic I found in Gerhard Koop\'s book shows U-97 beached lying on her starboard side with RN personnal walking on her backboard saddle tanks.

Does anybody know if U-97 was beached by her crew or raised at a later date by the Royal Navy ? What happened to the hulk ? Was it evaluated and subsequently scrapped ? Any detail will be appreciated.

Regards
Marc
