<HTML>Hi all -
I wonder whether any study has been made of the various PK (propaganda kompanie) photographers who specialized in U-boats - who they were, and which patrols they went on ?
Were they in fact U-boat specialists, or were they sent to photograph various aspects of the war on land, air and sea ?
And were they listed as `crew` - in other words, would a crew-list for a particular patrol show which PK man had been on board ?
I`m also curious as to whether there were only ever two or three during the war, or whether most boats had one on most patrols ? The only one who seems to get mentioned by name is Lothar-Günther Buchheim, who I believe was a well-known artist in his own right apart from writing `Das Boot` - but was he at sea photographing for most of the war, or did he just do a patrol or two ? Have I read somewhere that he actually only did one ?
And presumably they must have had some training before being allowed on board, or they could have created real problems in an emergency. Anything on this ?
Apologies for all the questions. Can`t see anything on this site, though I may not have found the right link; nor can I find anything specifically about U-boat PK men on the net as a whole.
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give -
Best wishes
Frank
