NBC\'s goofy sub movie

<HTML>So NBC here in the US aired a film about the foundering of the U.S.S. Squalus, (later Sailfish) SS192 this evening. And what vessel was hired to portray her?
A type VII U-Boat!!!!!!!!! I guess there must be a semi-operational boat somewhere in the world, and perhaps that is why this absolutely dis-similar vessel was used, instead of one of the Fleet boats which at least could have been creatively towed around, as the U.S.S. Pompanito was for the filming of a Kelsey Grammer comedy a few years ago.
This boat was grey; U.S. subs were painted black at the time.
On the surface, the sub wore the192 number, but in the underwater scenes, there was no number painted on the conning tower!!!!!
I guess the producers believe that the viewers are incredibly stupid. Any sub will do. And you can have continuity errors which rival those of the late lamented Ed Wood!
However, it does come to mind that some 30 or 40 years ago that the US Heavy Cruiser U.S.S. Salem was hired to portray the pocket battleship in the film \"Pursuit of the Graf Spee\", despite the fact that she had three turrets, and the Graf Spee had only two.
Has anybody noticed in the trailers for the new film \"Pearl Harbor\" that while the BB models in the \"following the bomb\" sequence are quite accurate, yet in another explosion scene, three or four moored destroyers are clearly Spruance or Kidd class DD\'s? To my knowledge, no moored DD\'s were hit; only a couple, (Cassin and Downes?) which were sharing a drydock with BB Pennsylvania.
Maybe those DD\'s came back in time through that same storm along with the U.S.S. Nimitz in that goofy \"Final Countdown\" movie some 15 or 20 years ago...</HTML>
