Ludovic, your probably aware of this information already, but i can tell you a little about U-1171.After two unsuccessful patrols in April 1945, she surrended in Stavanger on, 9/5/45. She left there 29th for Britain. She was taken over by Royal Navy, and became N19,, was broken up in Sunderland in April 1949.Laterally thinking, maybe her sleak shape, and paintwork, or insignia, reminded the RN of a Puma. As for insignia there is a marvellous book by Georg Hogel, about u-boat waffe insignia, which as far as i know is only in German, which is a pity, as would be brilliant read.Hopefully this may be of some help, regards Paul.
