Yes, a collision with a thin-hulled vessel like a dstroyer could easily affect its seaworthiness. A submarine is a low lying vessel and would tend to damage a surface vessel at or below the waterline (especially if the collision involved running over a submerged U-boat..).

Help me out guys...I seem to remember at least one escort that sank after collision with a U-boat, but I don't recall the exact incident....
