Hello Paul:
There were several Americans taken prisoner by the U-boats which sank their ships:
William Golobich, M.S. ATLANTIC SUN, U-607.
Capt. Capt. Paul Muller, Ch. Off Bendik Lande, S.S. CADDO, U-518. Muller died in German camp.
Capt. Henry Stevenson, S.S. SANTA RITA. U-172.
Jose Muniz, S.S. STEEL AGE. U-129.
Capt. Owen Reed, S.S. WILLIAM KING. U-198. Was turned over to Japanese at Java, and later was lost in sinking of S.S. JUNYO MARU.
I have never really researched this subject. These are are just those that come to mind. With the exception of Capt. Reed, all were definitely held in German camps. Stephenson, in his 60s, was eventually repatriated before the war's end.
Steady as she goes.
