Hi Mark,
Sorry, I have no info on the origin/destination of the Köln for that voyage.
My point in mentioning when the Köln was sunk was only that the Köln was still in operation (and not already sunk) during the sinking of the Cheyenne in September 1939 making her likely the ship mentioned by Heinicke.
Does the Admiralty interview also mention that Heinicke also offered to tow the lifeboats to the coast of Ireland and does it mention any other type of assistance offered (food, water, medical assistance etc.)?
Additionally do you have some sort of a reference number for the Admiralty interview?
