<HTML>Hi JD
Remember the circumstances for the order not to rescue survivors. The Laconia incident. (read more about here: [uboat.net]) U-156 (Hartenstein) was bombed, while saving survivors from the British passenger liner Laconia. Hartenstein sent a uncoded message with his position and the request for help (no Allied ship reacted). In return he was bombed by an American plane, although the U-boat was flying the red cross flag (I call the bombing a war crime).
Almost everone in Germany went along with the accepted program of the fascists. And the Germans fought until total destruction of her home country. I will not discuss with you about the cause of WWII, but in short the main points: treaty of Versailles, unemployment and bad economy situation. AH had converted Germany in 10 years from a indepted and suppressed country into a world power.
Please don\'t forget:
Do not judge things which happened 60 years ago from the point of view of today.
Regards
Rainer
P.S.:
I don\'t like your comment about Poles.. Have you noticed my surname? My name is of Polish extraction and my grandfather was in Danzig in September 1939, so he heard the first shots of WWII. He left his country after the war, because the Soviet \"occupation\" of Poland. (the Soviets killed more Poles than the Germans) All in all every fourth Pole died during WWII, the highest rate of all nations.</HTML>
