Hello,
interesting man. He was a sailor and had crossed the atlantic before the war in a sailing boat. He never served in the German Navy, no boot camp, no officer academy, nothing. He became a Leutnant (Sonderführer)without any prior naval or military service. and did many trips to south africa, south america etc to drop off german agents., He was the Man with the most sea days of WW II.His missions came from the Amt Abwehr Ausland, Adm Canaris.and later from the SS-Auslandsgeheimdienst He also became a SS-Sturmführer. and yes he survived the war . You can read more about him in www.das-ritterkreuz.de or buy a book about him. written by a frenchman. And of corse he was never considered for the UBootwaffe, having had none whatsoever naval education (Except sailing )
regards
fregatte
