Aurillac
7733 tons, Built 1921, 15/04/41: Torpedoed and sunk by gunfire by Italian submarine Enrico Tazzoli ( di Cossato ), in the Atlantic west of Madeira, in position 37.09N/18.42W while sailing independently on a voyage from Takoradi, Gold Coast to Workington via Madeira, with a cargo of 5500 tons of manganese ore and 70 tons of willow. The master, Capt Alec Charles Radley and 20 survivors landed on the island of Porto Santo and were brought to Funchal. The Chief Officer and 18 survivors were rescued by Portuguese ship Gorgulho on 25th 04/41 and landed at Madiera. One crewman was lost. " Merchant Ship Losses", page 35, Alan Tennent
