I was in Kiel in 1999 and went to Laboe. I took the train from Hamburg. I recommend first-class seating. From my motel in Kiel, I took a cab and it cost me something like $40 USD round trip. Today it would be much more. I did not know there was a water taxi that could take you there or I would have taken it.

It you'd like to visit the site where the former sub pen Kilian was located, contact the Harbour authority. It's been a long time since I was there and I do not know if Joerg Ruedel is still with the Harbor Auuthority.

I would also go to the Museum on the west side of the inlet right on the water. They have many pictures of Kiel during the war and their staff was were very helpful.

If you are looking for a nice motel, I highly recommend the following. A friend of mine stayed at this hotel just four months ago and said it was still very, very nice.
