There is only one solution, if the arrival dates for the both convoys are correct.
All three ships must have been in HX-47 (Balmoralwood was straggeling from this convoy)
Take a look on the Grid map and you will see it clearly. U-38 sank the two ships in the entrance to St.Georgs Channel at 01.00 hours on 15 June and the Balmoralwood was sunk 5 hours before not far away direct in the west, just south of Ireland.
According to the arrival dates, HX-48 was three days behind HX-47, far away from Ireland at this date.
