Hi, no, the battleship was sighted on 19 December 1940, escorted by six destroyers at 0 degrees from the U-boat, U 96 dived to attack, the whole group zig-zagged to the west, was no longer visible due to thickening mist, vanished in direction 290 degrees from the position of the U-boat, the whole incident lasted from 15:49 to 16:00 hours, whereupon a signal was sent to the BdU 'One battleship and six destroyers sighted, enemy is steering southerly, (quadrant) AM 1693'.
