Hello,
Schiffstammabteilung is basic training.Your father in law was already 37 years old when he was promoted to Gefreiter (Seaman ) in the ReservesI cannot see any posting to either Tirpitz nor a UBoat.Sailors that old in that rank did usually not serve on major warships nor UBoats. So it remains unsolved.
