Thank you for the kind reply. Yes, the only hope that he was aboard the Tirpitz is his assignment to a Combat Group (31.07.1944 – 13.12.1944 Kampfgruppe (ohne nähere Angaben). Were there "Kampfgruppe" on board a Schlachtshiff?
Everyone in the family talks about his ordeal in the water, saying his clothes had to be cut off because everything was frozen. The only discrepancy is they mention the North Sea and not a fjord.
It's to bad I cannot find a list of the sailors who served on the Tirpitz.
