Hello Volker,
This is not hot news for the Germans engineers.
In the beginning of WW I, they already build U-botten in 3 pieces in their shipyards of Kiel, Hamburg … en sent then from there by train, to their base in Bruges (Belgium), where they were then (re-)assembled and made ready for sea operations.
