I was lucky enough to visit the 505 in the late 80s. At that time, it was a guided tour. The tour guide that took us through the boat was an older German woman, complete with heavy accent! She was amazing with her stories because at the time, many of the original crew would come to Chicage to see their old boat. Many of the men stayed with this lady's family and needless to say, her tour was filled with details that you will never read about! To hear her talk about "zee Volfpacks" just made it even more amazing!

I visited it again in the mid-90s and there was no real tour guide, just a kid saying, "this is the aft torpedo room" and "watch your head"..... I hope to see it again with the new display!
