<HTML>There is a full doco about the salving of the sub. It was recently shown here in Aus on National Geographic. With regards to its condition. Its not as bad as it may appear. Work has been undertaken to preserve it and the new conning tower was fabricated by apprentices at the Local shipyard.I recall that funds were sought for a large aircraft hanger thing to house her in. There is some debate as to wether it should be restored or preserved in its found state. The inside of the sub is as you would expect after 50 odd years of being underwater.Nether the less its one of the most (if not the most) fasinating war relics I have visited(out of quite a few world wide).I found the guides all ex R.N.S) very good. The only problem was that you were not allowed to take photos inside.(or walk the deck owing to its hazarous state). Remember we are having a forum meet at u534in November this year. Four regulars will be attending and we would welcome more I can arrange accomadation for oversea visitors if required, and maybe pick non drivers up at the railway station.Try to make it. You will not be dissapointed...</HTML>
