Hello Chris, here are some bare facts to get you started.

In June 1944 Godafoss was part of Convoy number HXM295 from Halifax (later New York) to UK, sailing on 10 6 1944 and arriving on 26 6 1944. You can find further details in a number of files at the National Archives, Kew. If you are not familiar with the TNA process, follow the link below at the bottom of this post.

Godafoss was sunk on Nov 10 1944 while part of Convoy UR142. She had been a regular on the HX, SC, RU and UR routes and had just recently completed HX314 from Halifax. Godafoss and another ship, Shirvan, were both torpedoed by U-300 (VIIC/41, Oberleutnant zur See Fritz Hein). Survivors of Godafoss were rescued by HMS Northern Award the following day.

Some of this information comes from the Convoy Battles section of U-boat.net, which can be accessed by going to the Front Page and following the links, and you may find this useful.

Hope this helps,
Bruce
