A legend, maybe

<HTML>Well, comrades, it is summer in our hemisphere. Let\'s relax in the evening with a brown ale and an old seamen\' legend.
One German U-boat, most likely a type IX detached from Operation Monsoon, was patrolling in Polynesian waters during May 1945. The radio informed the crew about German surrender and the Captain was faced with a difficult decision: surrender to the Americans or to the Japanese? He asked the crew and they decided to stay on an atoll along with the natives. They scuttled the boat (keeping only the wireless equipment to hear the news from the world) and stayed on that island for many months
(or some years?). One day the Captain decided that the vacation should end and the crew’s relatives had the right to know they were not dead. He went back to the civilised world by a sailboat and soon after the rest of the crew was picked up and sent home in Germany quietly and without fuss.
Now, considerig that more than 1100 Uboats were commissioned and the above story a 99.9% myth, you still have one chance it could have happened.
