John,

According to the Master's survivors report, there was 63 persons onboard the ship at the time of the attack. Included in this number was 1 RAF pilot, 1 Sub Lt RNVR, 4 airmen, 4 naval catapult men, 1 RDF operator and 6 naval gunners.
Looking at the casualties for the 11 May 1942 the two dead from EMPIRE DELL were merchant seamen Humphries and Wilson, who were killed while trying to board the Canadian corvette. There are no other military casualties listed that can be attributed to the RN/RAF personnel onboard at the time.

Where there is some confusion is in the Captain states that there was 29 in his lifeboat, 2 of which were killed. So if 27 were on HMCS SHEDIAC and 21 were on BURY, that leaves 13 unaccounted for. I would say that either the Captain of EMPIRE DELL or BURY may have got their numbers wrong.

Regards,

Mark
