Hi,

I think what you are looking for is in the technologies area of this site. It will explain what the U boat fleet had at its disposal. Also then check out the Allied section of this site to see what destroyers were used. I think an important note to make in your speech is the fact that in the beginning England didn't have many destroyers for escort use to combat the U-Boat threat. Because of this Churchill requested and was given many WW1 era destroyers from the US under the lend lease act.

One last thing, this site has very good schematics on both types of subs you wish to cover. if your able to a pic of these would be great for your presentation on this subject. These are in the area of types of subs. Also in this section it will give you the capabilities of each type.
