The incident you are referring to is well documented. Perhaps one of the best books on the subject is \"U-boats to the Rescue - The Laconia Incident\" by
Leonce Peillard (1963) translated from the French \"L\'Affaire du \'Laconia\' \" (1961)

Possibly second hand copies around but dont know of any reprints.
